Musical about Lech Wałęsa in Gdańsk

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, former President of Poland Lech Wałęsa is one of the best known Poles in today’s world. He headed the 1980 strike in the Gdansk Shipyard, the protest which led to establishing Solidarity, the first independent trade union in the Soviet bloc. He remains one of the symbols of the fall of Communism in East-Central Europe. He is also one of the main characters of the new musical 1989 directed by Katarzyna Szyngiera. The premiere will take place at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre at 19.of November 2022.

1989 will show the fall of communism from a new perspective. Events known from newsreels and history books will come to life on stage through the eyes of three fascinating couples. In the lives of the Frasyniuks, Wałęsas and Kurońs, ideas compete with love, enthusiasm clashes with the weight of history, and heroism intertwines with family tragedies. The viewers will accompany the heroes in iconic moments - during strikes in the shipyard and at the Round Table - but also in intimate moments of joy and suffering experienced in the privacy of communist apartments or prison cells.

One of the best Polish rap producers is responsible for the sound of our musical - Andrzej Mikosz "Webber", known, among others, for many years of cooperation with "Łona". A fresh storytelling language of the that appealed to all generations.

The performance will be shown on the 2nd of December in Teatr Słowiackego in Cracow.
