"You never know what you will remember or be ashamed of..." - says one of the characters in REMNANTS. It's a play about memory, exile and longing for a world that is no longer there. Remembering the inhabitants whose memory has been obliterated, as if they were a meaningless episode.

The adaptation is based on motifs taken from Mikołaj Łoziński's STRAMER, an evocative, multi-voiced chronicle of fates of a Jewish family from pre-war Tarnów, as well as two episodes from W. G. Sebald's The Emigrants. In his book, Łoziński subtly creates an intimate portrait of a large Jewish family at the outbreak of World War II - that is, at the end of an era, soon to be erased by the Holocaust. Sebald evokes the fate of Western European Jewish exiles, constructing his story like a collector: he follows the trail of photographs, his own memories of the protagonists, their diaries, recorded itineraries and forced emigrations. This is a peculiar form of cultivating remembrance.
