23 CIAŁO/UMYSŁ - INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DANCE AND PERFORMANCE ART

The works we are presenting this year comment on contemporary social issues such as inequality, discrimination or social pressure. They go beyond patterns and conventions and strive for harmony between body and mind, between the individual and society, between art and life. (11-13.10.2024)

Laughter, streetdance, a clash between social roles, typicality and atypicality, able-bodied and disabled, questioning norms and hierarchies in dance, combining the questioning of norms with humour, creating community through dance and laughter – this is what you can expect to face during 23rd edition of C/U Festival.

In our festival performances, humor will not only entertain but also serve as a tool for self-discovery in our pursuit of the delicate balance between conformity and self-expression. – claims Edyta Kozak, the Festival Artistic Director – Laughter, often trivialized as merely a fleeting relief from daily woes, harbors profound wisdom and power. It is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, breaking barriers, evoking empathy, and providing a much-needed escape from the stresses of everyday life.*

*Excerpt from the festival magazine’s editorial

Ciało/Umysł is one of the oldest contemporary dance festivals in Poland, having existed since 1995. It consistently promotes independent, world art of dance with a special focus on intercultural dialogue, fostering empathy, mutual understanding and respect. It presents performances that break with standard creative solutions, dialogue with the heritage of this art form and provoke reflection. Each year, the festival’s program is expressed in a single thought.
