Malta Festiwal soon in Poznań

Already on 7 September, we open a new chapter in the Malta Festival's more than thirty-year history. Over 500 artists from 20 countries will perform in Poznań over nine days. As many as 124 events are waiting for the participants. In total, it will be over 200 hours of theatre performances, music, inspiring talks and workshops,’ says Dominika Kulczyk, patron of the Malta Festival. - Preparing a festival with such a diverse and extensive programme would not be possible without hundreds of people involved in its organisation. I would like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart for their hard work and passion. Together we have not only been able to save this one-of-a-kind festival, which is unique to me, but also to give it a uniquely feminine character. I firmly believe that the energy unleashed by this year's Malta will stay with its audiences for a long time and allow us to unite under the common message ‘For love!’-she adds. Among the events inaugurating the 34th edition of the Malta Festival is the Dominoes installation, consisting of as many as 7200 elements, on which more than 300 people will work.

Over the nine festival days, 124 events will take place in 30 locations with the participation of more than 500 artists from 20 countries. That's a total of 70 hours of performances, 80 hours of live music, 50 hours of talks, as well as 10 film screenings, 37 workshops and 19 meetings and panel discussions. The most impressive figure about this year's Malta? More than 50 tonnes of sand, which will form an artificial beach for the setting of the atmospheric opera Sun & Sea. -It is also worth recalling that admission to the vast majority of festival attractions is free. This year's Malta will be honoured by the arrival of Tim Robbins - the Oscar-winning actor will present his original vaudeville ‘Upside Down’. Poznań will also be the next stop on the world tour of ‘Elisabeth Costello’ by Krzysztof Warlikowski and Nowy Teatr. The festival will also show the opera ‘I, Şeküre’, inspired by the plot of ‘My Name is Red’ by Orhan Pamuk. The Nobel Prize-winning writer will watch the aforementioned work and take part in a conversation hosted by journalist Michal Nogaś. The musical programme is headlined by the exceptional group ANOHNI and the Johnsons, whose last year's album made it onto dozens of 2023 best albums lists. In turn, the main star of the open-air concert on Lake Malta will be Parov Stelar - the Austrian producer, adored in Poland, will perform with a full live band and will rock the audience with his unique, swing-inspired sound. Malta is also about street performances, performances and performances that continue the festival's tradition of bringing the urban space to life. An important highlight of the programme is the Witches section, which promotes an alternative, historically attested definition of the term - witches are ‘those who know’. This will be an opportunity to meet exceptional women sharing their experiences through panel discussions, workshops and film screenings.
