Fern flower in the circus tent
The Theatre Institute, in cooperation with the Lantern Theatre Foundation and local cultural centres, invite you to screenings of the family play Fern Flower, directed by Mateusz Tymura. This year's tour of the circus tent travelling through small towns as part of the Lato w teatrze programme will begin on 11 August. The performance will be presented fourteen times in the Podlaskie, Lubelskie and Mazowieckie Voivodeships. It will also be accompanied by workshops, parades and concerts. Check out where you can meet us!
The Fern Blossom performance is based on the fairy tale by Ignacy Kraszewski, which is based on the Polish tradition of Midsummer Night. The protagonist, Jacuś, a good, cheerful and curious person, dreams of finding a magical fern flower that can bring wealth and happiness to his beloved family. On his fairytale journey to find the golden flower, on his way to adulthood, facing forest fears and his own weaknesses, the boy fulfils his greatest desire and acquires the mysterious fern. It is then that he faces the crucial question of where true happiness is.
In the dark forest world, one can get lost, frightened, but also meet oneself. During such a journey, we have the chance to find the truth about values and relationships. To make difficult choices and face their consequences.
The production Fern Flower exudes a folk sensibility. The audience has the opportunity to hear, touch, see, feel and be a part of the presented world in an extraordinary closeness. The set design was made, among other things, from natural materials found during wanderings in the Knyszynska Forest in Podlasie, where the village of Borki, where the performance was created, is located. The music is played and created live on, among others, traditional instruments played by actors and musicians - members of the ensemble. In our performance, which draws on puppet and live theatre, as well as using elements of noble circus art, fun mixes with poetry, humour with pathos, and an old as the world story brings us great, simple wisdom, which we need so much in an increasingly complicated world.
The performance is accompanied by theatre workshops where participants will look at the themes and forms of the play in creative art, circus, music and animation games. They will then set off in a colourful, joyful procession to the venue for the Rejw Brothers concert.
The first showing of the show, entitled Fern Flower, in a modified form adapted to a circus tent, will take place on the grounds of the Lantern Theatre Foundation in Borki in the Podlaskie Voivodeship on 11 August. Further shows are being organised in cooperation with local cultural centres.
