After over 20 years of work, the actresses of Teatr ZAR reflect on the most significant aspects of theater practice, present in the group’s theatrical language that they have created for two decades.
This cycle of work focuses on empowering the performer with full awareness and autonomy over their actor’s presence on stage. Participants will not receive additional external tools, but rather will be guided through an individual journey to recognise, understand, and apply their own internal energy in their bodily and vocal presence. This space and practice lie at the heart of Teatr ZAR’s work and form the foundation of their performative practice. The work aims to inspire and empower the next generation of performers, students, and artists.
Each session will be co-led by Kamila and Ditte, who will share guiding principles from their own practices, which intertwine and complement each other. The cycle of work will be divided into three separate phases, with one session held every month over a three-month period.
Full participation in the cycle is recommended.
Participants will be asked to bring a proposal of approximately 3 minutes of material they would like to work on, develop further, and explore from a new perspective.
RECONNAISSANCE: Mapping
25–26 January 2025, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
This session focuses on the process of bodily and sonic recognition—understanding the essential and unique tool we have for expression on stage: our body. It is a journey into understanding how our body can feel, move, and sound—the visible and invisible movement. Where does our breath originate in the body, how does it travel internally, and what openings does it seek?
EXPEDITION: Shaping, Memorising
22–23 February 2025, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
This session is dedicated to applying the understanding of our bodily expressive tools to achieve specific aims and directions in order to create potential outcomes. A process we call “mapping,” it challenges physical memory to guide us along previously tread paths while perhaps suggesting new avenues of exploration. It is a playground for the exploration of sound qualities and intentions, and how we can shape them toward the end we desire.
JOURNEY: Guiding Toward Stage Presence
22–23 March 2025, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
This session focuses on applying the discoveries from the previous sessions directly to build the landscape of each participant’s creative material. The structure will reflect each individual’s personal style, without the intention of replicating the aesthetics of Teatr ZAR’s poetic language. Kamila and Ditte aim to use their 20 years of experience as performers and leaders of Teatr ZAR’s practice to help actors gain confidence in the autonomy of their own energetic presence on stage.
