Czech performance ‘... because of Alma’ at the Theatre Institute
The Theatre Institute invites you on 23 and 24 November at 7 p.m. to the performance ‘... because of Alma’ (dir. Jaroslava Šiktancová). Musical talent and a happy childhood in a well-known musical family, as well as a marriage to a brilliant musician - all this seemed to bode well for the brilliant violinist Alma Rosé's prosperous and successful life with music in the leading role. However, only the music remained. Everything else was swept away.
The story of the daughter of the Viennese violinist Arnold Rosé and niece of Gustav Mahler contains not only the incomprehensible and terrifying twists of history in the first half of the 20th century, but also the question of the power of music in human life. Alma Rosé lived only by and for music, but twentieth-century history destroyed her happy and peaceful life. In Auschwitz, she was the conductor of a women's orchestra, and managed to save many female prisoners thanks to this. She died in the camp in April 1944.
The stage is filled with excellent musicians from the Alma Ansámbl string ensemble and three actors. The dramatic text was written by the screenwriter and playwright Martina Kinská, who has experience of working with similar themes and whose scripts have received a number of awards. The role of Alma is played by Antonia Formanová, the granddaughter of Miloš Forman, one of the most prominent actresses of the younger generation.
