Joanna Lewicka laureate of the FAUST - the most important theatre award in Germany
Joanna Lewicka, a director working in Germany and Poland, has won Germany's most important theatre prize, ‘Der Faust’. She received it for directing ‘Antigone’ at the Zwickau-Plauen Theatre.
The winners of the DER FAUST 2024 awards were announced on 16 November at a gala at the Gera Theatre. Joanna Lewicka was awarded for her staging of ‘Antigone’ at the Zwickau- Plauen Theatre. The winners were selected by a seven-member jury made up of representatives of the German Academy of Performing Arts (Deutsche Akademie der Darstellenden Künste).
Quote from the jury's justification: ‘What more does theatre need than confidence in text and acting? Joanna Lewicka has taken Sophocles' Antigone seriously and intelligently and created a very moving and extremely topical performance at the Plauen-Zwickau Theatre.’ (Read more at: derfaust-theaterpreis.de)
