Kielce International Theatre Festival

The idea behind the festival is to create a space for multicultural dialogue by presenting various varieties of contemporary theatre and drama from European countries. The festival is intended as a meeting platform for theatre professionals and enthusiasts, with a mission to integrate European culture and the theatre community in the broadest sense. Above all, however, it provides the audience of the city and the region with an opportunity to learn about significant performances.

Performances from France, Germany and Poland - theatrical events of recent seasons, debates, readings and workshops. The sixth edition of the Festival starts with a high C and keeps the level up throughout the festival! For the sixth time, Kielce will shine with the theatrical colours of the best premieres from Poland and Europe.


Among the guests of this year's edition will be Berlin's Schaubühne theatre with its production of The Girl's Memory, directed by Sarah Kohm. French actress Mina Kavani will present I'm Deranged, a production by Grosse Théâtre from Avignon. In November, a production of Be a Wolf from the National Theatre in Reykjavik will be shown as an addition to the festival. All foreign performances will be screened with subtitles in Polish and English.
Contemporary interpretations of critically acclaimed classic readings will also be part of our programme. On stage, we will see Noce i dnie czyli między życia a śmiercią (Nights and Days or Between Life and Death)directed by Michał Siegoczyński, and the play Chłopi (Peasants) directed by Remigiusz Brzyk. The subject of the old countryside will also be explored in the performance Piękna Zośka directed by Marcin Wierzchowski from the Wybrzeże Theatre, as well as during a debate featuring, among others, Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak, author of the bestselling Chłopek (Peasants), and cultural expert and folklorist Prof. Roszewski.and folklorist Professor Roch Sulima. The festival will open with an adaptation of Widnokręg directed by Michał Kotański. We will also present the performance Niko czyli prosta zwyczajna historia (Niko: A Simple Ordinary Story), which was created as part of the ‘Blue Zone’ project, which supports people on the autism spectrum.
There will also be the festival hit, the musical 1989, directed by Katarzyna Szyngiera. From Bydgoszcz will come the performance The Last Days of Elena and Nicolae Ceauşescu, directed by Wojciech Faruga.
The National Old Theatre from Krakow will show a performance of The Brilliant Friend directed by Ewelina Marciniak. Warsaw will host a performance of Pogo directed by Kinga Dębska based on the novel by the Kielce-based Jakub Sieczka, who will also be a guest of the festival.
Among the performative readings with the participation of Kielce actors, we will premiere the adaptation of Mateusz Pakuła's new book Skóra po dziadku. The festival programme will also include a performance directed by Pakuła entitled Golden Plates.
