The Grand Theater Łódź finally has its production of one of the most popular and classic musicals. My Fair Lady, based on motifs from George Bernard Shaw's play Pigmalion, was created in 1956. Alan Jay Lerner was the author of the libretto, Frederick Loewe was the composer. The preview of My Fair Lady took place at Schubert Theatre in New Haven, and then, since 15 February 1956, it was staged for four weeks at Erlanger Theatre, Philadelphia. It opened on Broadway on 15 March, 1956 at Mark Hellinger Theatre, which had hosted 2717 performances of the musical (a record at the time). The Oscar-winning film adaptation was released in 1964 starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison.The play is set in the 19th century London. A linguist, professor Higgins bets his friend that he would change a Cockney flower girl into a lady. The crude Eliza Doolittle becomes the object of the experiment. My Fair Lady has been one of the most successful musicals and songs such as I Could Have Danced All Night, On the Street Where You Live, Wouldn't It Be Loverly? or With a Little Bit of Luck became all time hit songs.
