Oddessa/ Ukraine special concert
On 1 March at 7 p.m., in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw under the baton of Michał Klauza will pay tribute to Ukraine with a moving programme full of musical emotions. Broadcast on Polish Radio 2
Together with outstanding soloists - violinist Anna Maria Staśkiewicz and pianist Alexey Botvinov - the orchestra will present the Polish premiere of Tan Dun's double concerto, Mieczysław Karłowicz's ‘Rebirth’ and Myroslav Skoryk's ‘Melody’. The event is organised by the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw. Honorary patronage of the concert is assumed by the Ukrainian House Foundation.
The Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw invited an exceptional artist to participate in the concert - an outstanding pianist and creator of the Odesa Classics festival, which has been one of the most important musical events in this part of the world since 2015. Alexey Botvinov is regarded as one of the most outstanding interpreters of Bach and Rachmaninoff music. He is also keen on contemporary repertoire, performing works by composers such as Philip Glass, Alfred Schnittke and Tan Dun. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, she has been involved in organising charity concerts around the world.
On 1 March, the Odesa Classics festival will return to the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio, and the Polish audience will hear for the first time the Double Concerto for violin, piano, string orchestra and two percussion by Tan Dun - a composer known for his music to Ang Lee's film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Alongside Alexey Botvinov, the solo violin part will be performed by Anna Maria Staśkiewicz. The piece was commissioned by the Odesa Classics festival and was performed during its last Ukrainian edition.
Anna Maria Staśkiewicz is a laureate of prestigious violin competitions, giving concerts both in Poland and abroad. She has performed with many renowned orchestras and her talent has been admired by audiences of concert halls such as the Municipal Theatro in São Paulo. Since 2015, she has held the position of concertmaster in the Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra.
- Three years have passed. The excitement of 2022 has been covered by the hustle and bustle of more local and global events. With our concert, we want to remind people that the Ukrainian struggle is still ongoing,’ says Kajetan Prochyra, director of the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw.
