Poland's first operatic staging of Witold Gombrowicz's The Wedding
The performance celebrating the 120th anniversary of Witold Gombrowicz's birth and 55th anniversary of his death will also be presented at the Wielki Theatre - National Opera. The musical layer of the work was created by Zygmunt Krauze. The operatic staging of ‘The Wedding’ was prepared for the Grand Theatre in Poznan as part of the ‘Composer Orders’ programme, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance. The premiere is planned on 22 November.
‘The Wedding is Gombrowicz in its pure form: irony, deformation and absurdity. Zygmunt Krauze's poignant music perfectly complements the drama unfolding on stage. Entering the oneiric, mysterious world of the performance makes us realise that megalomania, power and the desire to control are not only the sins of past times, but also the flaw of the present,’ wrote the creators of the Poznań production about the upcoming premiere.
Krzysztof Cicheński is responsible for the libretto and direction. Musical direction has been entrusted to Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak. The actors will be Michał Partyka, Jan Jakub Monowid, Piotr Kalina, Łukasz Konieczny, Gosha Kowalinska and Monika Mych-Nowicka.
On the first of December, the performance will appear on the stage of the Grand Theatre - National Opera. The Poznań Grand Theatre recalled that this is another presentation in Warsaw; a concert performance of Stanislaw Moniuszko's ‘Paria’ and the ballet triptych ‘BER’ previously met with interest from the local audience.
