Siegfried in the German-language press

After the premiere of "Zygrfried" directed by Ewelina Marciniak on the stage of Buhnen Bern, the first reviews have already appeared. I would like to remind you that this is the first time that Polish director Ewelina Marciniak has staged the entire Wagner theatralogy at a Swiss opera house - and every season the Polish director prepares - enthusiastically received - further parts of it.

"Siegfried" was also appreciated, although the enthusiasm of reviewers was not as great as in the previous parts of Wagner's "Ring". Martina Hunziker, in the pages of the Swiss newspaper 'Der Bund', gives an engaging account of the main character. This Bernese Siegfried is a bit of a freak, but he is completely convincing in this role. He wears thick-framed glasses, a shirt and mismatched jeans. He has long hair tied up in a ponytail. He looks like a slightly exaggerated caricature of an IT specialist.

The British tenor Jonathan Stoughton, who performs the role, impresses above all with his vocal power; his strong, warm tenor is able to sustain the long duration of the part. Austrian guest tenor Thomas Ebenstein is also an excellent vocal choice. His Mim is a clever, cunning and secretly unsympathetic dwarf.

The reviewer's enthusiasm is also aroused by the musical performance. The Bern Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nicholas Carter, handles all the nuances in Wagner's sounds with ease, as it has also demonstrated in previous parts of the cycle

Similarly, Gerhard Hoffmann - reviewer of "Der Oper Freund" That this was a musically excellent performance . Carter managed to create a breathtaking interpretation of Siegfried's score in a breathtaking way, inspiring an orchestra that is superb.

Completely overloading the stage with great dance theatre choreography (prepared by Mikołaj Karczewski) and a whole host of extras was visually appealing, but unfortunately distracting.

Next season, the premiere of Twilight of the Gods, the last of the Wagnerian cycle, is scheduled. Prepared - like the previous ones - by Ewelina Marciniak.
