Welcome to the island of wonder in the sea of realism. The new production, based on Malina Prześluga's text, is a multi-threaded story for young viewers about growing up, finding one's own path, the power of friendship, the need for freedom and relationships with parents.
A surprising prequel to the events known from William Shakespeare's drama focuses on the iconic characters from "The Tempest", which we have been observing since their first appearance on the island. What is contained in only a few sentences in the original drama comes to the fore in the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater's version.
The title "Storm" has many dimensions here. It's a generic fear of strangers, getting used to otherness. Young people on the threshold of adolescence also experience stormy emotions. And further lightning and discharges: rebellion against the existing reality and related dilemmas, attempt to dominate nature. We also encounter magic in the show, both that flowing from the power of nature and that fueled by the power of money.
The show has another dimension: it is also a story about contemporary colonialism in its various guises.
