I invite you to meet the essence of Kristin Linklater’s Freeing the Natural Voice method – “a sigh of relief”. This is a fundamental step in this approach to working with the voice, as well as a basic tool for regulating the tension that often occurs unconditionally in everyday life. Sighing helps to release tension. Learning to stimulate the impulse to sigh becomes the key to re-educating the system of thinking about the “correct” production of the voice.
“Maximum effect with minimum effort” is the hallmark of great art. Great art grows out of truth. “Minimum effort’ requires full engagement with the inner processes of imagination and emotion that stimulate the voice to express inner truth.
In this short session we will look at the function of the sigh and spend some time with it. Long enough for everyone to understand how to use the function of the sigh and what can be gained from it in the context of vocal expression.
I invite anyone interested in working with the voice, especially people from the theatre, music and teaching communities.
This short session will help you to revitalise and refresh your approach to your role/monologue/song, regain spontaneity and open up to thought and emotional impulses.
It will help you remember that your breath is always your ally, even in stressful situations when your voice gets caught in your throat.
